The new medical facility was opened within the Lviv City Municipal Children’s Hospital and offers cutting-edge equipment, previously unavailable in the region.

The NOVO Medical Center at the Lviv Municipal Children’s Hospital opened on October 28, 2014. Prior to the opening ceremony, the sanctification of the new building was performed by the priests of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church.

Over 70 participants attended the event, among them Tetiana Korotka, director of PPP Professional Services at USAID, Olexandr Maksymchuk, president of the Association of Charities of Ukraine, Iryna Mykytchak, vice-head of the Lviv Healthcare Department, Volodymyr Zub, head of the Healthcare Unit at the Lviv City Counci, healthcare providers from the city of Lviv and surrounding areas.

The talks focused on the ways to work more efficiently with the fetal equipment transferred to the Institute by the fund. The participants outlined the possibilities to optimize the efficiency of the fetal equipment. Before his birth, Sashko was diagnosed with gastroschisis. Gastroschisis is a severe birth defect when the intestine and other abdominal organs protrude through a hole in the abdominal wall and spill out into the amniotic fluid around the fetus. This condition is a medical emergency. Some 10-15 years ago, mortality rate of gastroschisis in Ukraine was very high, up to 60-80%, in some regions up to 100%.

Electronic fetal monitors (cardiotocographs) are widely used in obstetrics to assess the fetus during pregnancy and at the first stage of labor. The device displays fetus heart rate, uterine contractions and automatic fetal movement in real time. Spike-like 2 waveforms on uterine activity sector denotes relative intensity and duration of fetal movement. Single and twin fetus heart rate measurements are affordable. Fetal heart monitoring allows to decrease neonatal mortality rates.

The “Children’s Hospital of the Future” Foundation has the lowest administrative costs among charities with more than UAH 10 Million income, finds the National Rating of Charities 2012. In that year, only 5 percent of the fund’s budget was allocated to administrative expenditures.

The visit is part of the cooperation of “Ukraine 3000” and “Children’s Hospital of the Future” foundations and the California Association to Aid Ukraine. Dr. Tcherniantchouk is an active member of CAAU. In 2007, the organizations signed a memorandum to provide aid to Ukrainian medics and ensure their participation in the Residency Programs at Cedars Sinai Medical Center.
High-tech medical equipment donated by Children’s Hospital of the Future Charitable Foundation saves hundreds of newborn lives

For the first time in its history, the Institute obtained such much-needed equipment as video endoscopy systems, cytogenetic laboratory, the newest 3D /4D ultrasound machines, equipment for fetal surgeries, resuscitation equipment for neonatal and pediatric patients etc. Overall the Institute received over 25 equipment items which were installed and are operating in 5 departments.

From March 2013 a unique surgical unit is functioning at the Department of Thoracoabdominal Pediatric Surgery at the Institute of Pediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynecology. The electrosurgical coagulant (KLS Martin electrosurgical unit Maxium) was bought and suppolied for use by the “Children’s Hospital of the Future” Charitable Foundation.
