From now on, the residents of the city of Lviv and the Lviv oblast do not have to undertake lengthy travels to receive diagnostic services they need as the new medical center Novo in Lviv will take care of them. The new medical facility was opened within the Lviv City Municipal Children’s Hospital and offers cutting-edge equipment, previously unavailable in the region.

The center was officially opened on November 11, 2014. Among the ceremony participants were Kateryna Yushchenko, Head of the Supervisory Board of Ukraine 3000, Petro Kolodiy, Head of the Lviv Oblast Council, Svitlana Khotina, Director of the Department of Medical Aid of the Ministry of Healthcare of Ukraine, Yuriy Antypkin, President of the Association of Pediatricians of Ukraine and Director of the Institute of Pediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Oleksandr Maksymchuk, President of the Association of Charities of Ukraine, Dmytro Kvit, Chief Physician of the Lviv City Municipal Children’s Hospital.

It took over 1,5 years to establish the new medical facility. The equipment donated to the Center by Ukraine 3000 and Children's Hospital of the Future includes the MRI tomograph Optima MR450w GE Healthcare, the computer tomograph Toshiba Aquilion PRIME 4D and three ultrasound machines. The total cost of the equipment is UAH 50 million. Center’s physicians speak of the the high level of patient safety and patient services provided at the new medical facility.

The Center was created by the "Center for Medical Innovations", a non-governmental, non-profit charitable organization founded by Children's Hospital of the Future. In 2013, the foundation launched a pilot project to implement best practices in medical management and learning technologies at one of the pediatric hospitals. The selection of the hospital was carried out on competitive basis. Together with Ukraine 3000 that was running its "Hospital to Hospital" program to assist Ukrainian pediatric clinics, the foundation chose the Lviv Municipal Children’s Hospital for project implementation. The Lviv municipalities made a significant contribution to the establishment of the new Center.

In terms of health care management, the Novo Medical Center takes a truly revolutionary approach being the first ever medical facility in Ukraine that functions as a charity. Moreover, the Center established a public-private partnership with the Lviv City Municipal Children's Hospital.

Kateryna Yushchenko spoke at the opening ceremony. “Ten years ago our foundation set a goal to create better conditions for treatment of children in Ukraine. To achieve it, we established numerous projects. Some of our biggest initiatives so far were the “Hospital to Hospital” program that among other things offered fellowships abroad to Ukrainian medics, the project "Joy of Childhood-Free Movements" that helped children with cerebral palsy, and the widely known project to create the Center for Healthcare of Mother and Child. When in 2010 we understood that it is impossible to realize this project in the format that we have planned, we began to look for ways to use the new knowledge and experience we have acquired".

Mrs. Yuschenko also spoke of the competition to choose the hospital for the implementation of the pilot medical project won by the Lviv City Municipal Children’s Hospital. “Thanks to our good relationship with the hospital's administration and the Lviv municipalities, we are able to bring our idea into life. We are able to install the newest equipment here and we hope to install more equipment units in the nearest future. I am very happy that this became possible. I wish our whole team patience and I pray to the Lord to bless our intentions”.

Kateryna Yushchenko presented the icon of St. George to the Center. The icon is a gift of Grigol Katamadze, former Ambassador of Georgia, to the medical center of mother and child.

Oleksandr Maksymchuk, Head of the Association of Charities of Ukraine and Head of the Supervisory Council of the Center for Medical Innovations, said that the Center’s work is integrated in the cycle of patient care services at the Lviv City Municipal Children's Hospital as certain patient categories will receive diagnostic services at the center. Yuriy Antypenko, President of the Institute of Pediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynecology, added that in the future the Center will be also involved in the cycle of perinatal care services, similar to the one ran at his institution.

Oleksandr Maksymchuk named the three areas of the center's future charitable activities. First, the center will provide free diagnostic services for children whose parents lost their lives during the civil protests or as the result of the ongoing war in the East. Second, it will provide free diagnostic services for the patients in grave condition of the Lviv City Municipal Children's Hospital. Finally, the Center will offer fellowships abroad for Ukrainian medics. The Center is open for cooperation with charities and private donors to realize medical projects and programs.

The Novo Medical Center will serve the needs of both children and adults. In October-November 2014, the Center hosted several events. On October 24, 2014, the Center hosted a seminar on healthcare PPPs with medical experts from healthcare facilities in Lviv and the oblast. On October 28, the Center was sanctified and welcomed its first patients.
