On December 10, Prof. Dr. Volodymyr Kozyavkin, renowned specialist in neurology and rehabilitation, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Hero of Ukraine, General Director of the International Clinic of Rehabilitation, visited the Novo Medical Center in Lviv.

Dr. Volodymyr Kozyavkin is the author of the Intensive Neurophysiological Rehabilitation System known worldwide as the Kozyavkin Method. His method offers fundamentally new rehabilitation technologies for patients with organic lesions of the nervous system and cerebral palsy. The new approach to training human movements and correcting movement patterns involves the use of the Spiral movement correction suit.  In addition, Dr. Kozyavkin also introduced the electronic medical record which stores data and produces a quick analysis of all
the information concerning the patient’s condition. The International Clinic of Rehabilitation provides treatment for patients with all forms of cerebral palsy, with low back pain and consequences of trauma and organic lesions of the nervous system. The key feature in Dr Kozyavkin’s therapy lies in “turning on” the sections of the brain which are adjacent to the damaged section, in other words, it aims at finding compensatory mechanisms thanks to which the patient’s organism can, at least partly, restore the functions that have been lost. Positive results are achieved in ninety percent of the cases. Following a rehabilitation course at the clinic, the children with the most serious forms of cerebral palsy are able to sit, walk, hold their head and can, as Dr. Kozyavkin puts it, “adapt to the complexities of life”. The Kozyavkin Method was recognized as one of the world’s four leading conservative rehabilitation methods for children with cerebral palsy.

Volodymyr Kozyavkin serves as member of the Expert Council at the Center for Medical Innovations. Recently, the clinic and the Novo Center have launched a joint project to provide diagnostic services. During his visit, Prof. Kozyavkin discussed the ways to expand cooperation between the Center and his clinic. Professor Kozyavkin stressed the unique opportunities the Center’s equipment provides for an accurate diagnosis of patients with nervous system disorders.

Dr. Kozyavkin also appreciated the administration system at the new medical facility. The Novo Medical center is a non-governmental, nonprofit institution and established a private-public-partnership with the Lviv City Municipal Children’s Hospital where it is located. Dr. Kozyavkin suggested that this approach to medical facility administration should be adopted by other Ukrainian hospitals, particularly the emerging ones.

The International Rehabilitation Clinic takes part in social and charitable projects to treat children with cerebral palsy, including “Joy of Childhood-Free Movements” by Ukraine 3000. The program enabled over 15000 children from families with low income to undergo a treatment course at the clinic.
